Concealed Weapons Permits on the rise in Sacramento County

For the record, with 7,478 permits issued and only 1 homicide by an authorized CCW holders (.013%), you seem to be much safer when more good citizens armed.

While we would disagree with Sheriff Jone’s assessment that personal protection is a privilege, we do hope he keeps doing the right thing and issues more permits to everyone who wants to take responsibility for their own security.

– – –

SACRAMENTO – Six years ago when Scott Jones became Sheriff of Sacramento County he promised to make it easier for people to get a concealed weapons permit. So far, he has lived up to that promise.

Since August of 2011, the number of concealed weapons permits, or CCWs, has soared from 887 to 7,478 in January of 2016.

When asked if Jones believes more people should carry, he simply answered, “Yes.”

“People face the same dangers that I do. They have a desire to protect themselves and their family,” said Sheriff Jones. “The flavor of the country has changed over the last year or two, and it is not so much about being a victim of a mugging or getting money out of the ATM. Now, you have the real threat of terrorism.”

Dr. Garen Wintemute is an emergency room doctor at UC Davis and a researcher on gun violence. He says the country changed in 2012 beginning with Aurora and then Sandy Hook and San Bernardino where “public mass shootings” have become more frequent.

But he says while those shootings create fear, the fear is more perception than reality.

“Mass shootings are uncommon, they account for less than 1-percent of all firearm deaths in the United States,” said Dr. Wintemute. “But mass shootings have the potential of changing the character of American public life.”

Change is exactly what is happening to the makeup of Sacramento County under Sheriff Jones where 90 percent of all CCW applications are approved by his office.

“I wish it was more,” said Jones.

Is the Worm Turning as Europeans Discover Virtues of Armed Self-defense while EU Bureaucrats Seek New Gun Controls?

Further, the New York Post pointed out in an article titled “Europeans stocking up on guns after mass sex attacks,” actual firearms are also in great demand.

More recently, German state news agency Deutsche Welle noted this trend. According to the article, “most customers want a pistol that can fit easily into a handbag or a small drawer in the night table.” Moreover, a “social media expert” told the news outlet, “There has been an increase of at least 1,000 percent or more in Google search queries for gun permits since January.”

To their credit, rank and file German police officers appear to support the decision many Germans are taking to arm themselves. German Police Union Chief Rainer Wendt told Deutsche Welle that the police do not intend to obstruct citizens in their attempts to lawfully arm and that he does not support new laws that would make it more difficult for the public to obtain self-defense products.

As we pointed out back in November and December, this all comes at a time when the EU is seeking to crack down on firearm ownership in its member states. Pursuant to the European Firearms Directive, EU nations are already required to adopt a minimum threshold of gun restrictions. However, on November 18, in the wake of terrorist shootings and bombings in Paris, the European Commission announced that it was expediting previously contemplated gun control legislation. An extensive overview of current EU firearms law can be found at Library of Congress’ website.

Under EU legislative procedure, typically the transnational government’s executive branch, the European Commission, drafts and proposes legislation. The proposed legislation must then be approved by the European Parliament, which consists of members of parliament (MEPs) elected by the citizens of member states, and the European Council, which consists of the leaders of the various member states, in order to be adopted. These entities may also provide amendments to the proposed legislation.

Soviet Style “Mental Health,” saying goodbye to your 2nd Amendment rights?

In order to ensure that the screening mandate is being properly implemented, the government will need to create a database containing the results of the screenings. Those anti-gun politicians who want to forbid anyone labeled “mentally ill” from owning a firearm will no doubt want to use this database as a tool to deprive individuals of their Second Amendment rights.

If the preventive task force has its way, Americans could lose their Second Amendment, and possibly other, rights simply because they happened to undergo their mandatory depression screening when they were coping with a loved one’s passing or a divorce, or simply having a bad day. As anyone who has been mistakenly placed on the terrorist watch list can attest, it is very difficult to get off a government database even when the government clearly is in error. Thus, anyone mistakenly labeled as depressed will have to spend a great deal of time and money in what may be a futile attempt to get his rights back.

Mandatory depression screening will endanger people’s health by increasing the use of psychotropic drugs. These drugs often have dangerous side effects. Their use has even been linked to suicide. The fact that almost every mass shooter was on psychotropic drugs is another good reason to oppose any policy that will increase reliance on these medicines.

Kansans seek concealed carry training despite relaxing of laws

“As President Obama continues to push for tighter gun control, many consumers aren’t taking the chance of waiting to purchase one.

‘I think there are concerns that there might be further restrictions on guns so people are starting to buy them now,’ said concealed carry permit holder Ron Pope.

As of July 2015, the concealed carry of a firearm without a license is legal in the state of Kansas. Gun owners are still piling into concealed carry classes despite the law change.

Ron Pope received his concealed carry license two years before the law changed.

‘I’ve always enjoyed shooting, ever since I was young. As my children got older, I wanted them to have experience shooting and I thought the additional education I’d get with a concealed carry class would be important,’ explained Pope.”

You Know Less Than You Think About Guns

“‘There is a gun for roughly every man, woman, and child in America,’ President Barack Obama proclaimed after the October mass shooting that killed 10 at Umpqua Community College in Oregon. ‘So how can you, with a straight face, make the argument that more guns will make us safer? We know that states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths. So the notion that gun laws don’t work—or just will make it harder for law-abiding citizens and criminals will still get their guns—is not borne out by the evidence.’

n this single brief statement, Obama tidily listed the major questions bedeviling social science research about guns—while also embodying the biggest problem with the way we process and apply that research. The president’s ironclad confidence in the conclusiveness of the science, and therefore the desirability of “common-sense gun safety laws,” is echoed widely with every new mass shooting, from academia to the popular press to that guy you knew from high school on Facebook.

In April 2015, the Harvard gun-violence researcher David Hemenway took to the pages of the Los Angeles Times to declare in a headline: “There’s scientific consensus on guns—and the NRA won’t like it.” Hemenway insisted that researchers have definitively established “that a gun in the home makes it a more dangerous place to be…that guns are not used in self-defense far more often than they are used in crime…and that the change to more permissive gun carrying laws has not reduced crime rates.” He concludes: “There is consensus that strong gun laws reduce homicide”

Identity Politics Must Die – Vincent Birrittella

“As I watch the events unfold in Oregon, I cannot help but notice the draconian nature of political culture. It seems that people are extremely willingly to support government aggression so long as it’s compelled on their particular scapegoat. This kind of mindset needs to be dead and buried. Identity politics has to go and never come back.

Nowadays, terrorism seems to be the perfect route to take to cause an uproar. Left and right both take advantage of a public that’s filled with anxiety and uncertainty. The incidents in Oregon really show that liberals actually have a bit of neocon in them: as long as the people they despise are the possible perpetrators, it doesn’t really matter what the government does to them.

For god sakes, I saw some supposed liberal doves calling for drone strikes! How can you not be frightened by such thoughts? (Thats a warning for you beer-bellied, Don’t Tread on Me–flag waving, and gun-bearing middle-aged white men. The liberals got drones and they wanna use them.)

These people are not terrorists, and no act of violence has been committed by these people. If occupying a public space for protest is a criminal act, then leftists causes are just as guilty. No one would consider Occupy Wall Street to be terrorists or criminals just for occupying a public space, nor should they. Guns don’t make it any intrinsically different.

I wish these people actually knew what could possibly result if the government decided to violently kill these people: a more reckless and authoritarian state. And let me remind the liberals that it’s the same state that brutalizes minorities — a group that liberals would die for — on a routine basis. But that is none of my business.”

Entire US voter registration record (191 million) leaked

“I’m Chris Vickery. I know your phone number, address, date of birth, and more (if you’re registered to vote in the US).

I have recently downloaded voter registration records for 191 million Americans from a leaky database. I believe this is every registered voter in the entire country. To be very clear, this was not a hack.

The mysterious, insecure database is currently configured for public access. No password or other authentication is required at all. Anyone with an internet connection can grab all 300+ gigabytes.

We’re talking about first name, middle name, last name, home address, mailing address, phone number, date of birth, party affiliation, and logs of whether or not you voted in primary/general elections all the way back to 2000. I looked myself up in the Texas table. It’s accurate.

It is not known whether or not ‘high risk professionals’ are included in this database. However, I have looked up several police officers in my city, and their data is indeed present.

I’ve been working with journalists and authorities for over a week to get this database shut down or secured. No luck so far.

Check out the initial coverage here: http://www.csoonline.com/article/3018592/security/database-configuration-issues-expose-191-million-voter-records.html”

Poll suggests Americans would arm themselves for protection – My News 4 – KRNV, Reno, NV

“WASHINGTON (SINCLAIR BROADCAST GROUP) — A Twitter poll conducted by Sinclair stations across the country found that 74 percent of respondents would arm themselves for protection.

More than 5,000 people responded to the poll, which was posted by 44 Sinclair stations across the country.

A total of 26 percent of those responding said they would not arm themselves for protection.

The polling comes amid heightened concerns over terrorism in the wake of the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.

Attempting to quell the public’s fear, President Barack Obama said in an interview this weekend that ISIS ‘is not an organization that can destroy the United States.’

Obama validated the concerns of many Americans, saying he understand why people are worried, but he noted that the most damage ISIS can do ‘is if they start changing how we live and what our values are.’

He expressed that part of his last year in office will be spent making sure Americans remember, ‘who we are and make sure that our resilience, our values, our unity are maintained.’

‘If we do that, then ISIL will be defeated.’

Asked which was a better way to respond to terrorism in this country, enacting stricter gun control laws or encouraging more people to carry guns legally, a Washington Post/ABC poll found 47 percent of respondents felt more people carrying guns was a better response.

In that same Washington Post/ABC poll, 42 percent of respondents said stricter guns laws were a better response.

That poll was conducted by phone in December of 2015, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent. A random sample of 1,002 adults were questioned.

By comparison, a Gallup poll conducted earlier this year found 56 percent of respondents said more concealed weapons would make the country safer.

‘A majority of Americans, 56%, believe that if more Americans carried concealed weapons after passing a criminal background check and training course, the country would be safer,’ the poll concluded. Of those asked, 41 percent said the United States would be less safe.

The results were a part of Gallup’s annual crime poll, conducted in October.”

U.S. Government and Top Mexican Drug Cartel Exposed as Partners

: “Relying on over 100 interviews with current and former government functionaries on both sides of the border, as well as official documents from the U.S. and Mexican governments, Mexico’s El Universal concluded that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Justice Department had secretly worked with Mexican drug lords. The controversial conspiring led to increased violence across Mexico, where many tens of thousands have been murdered in recent years, the newspaper found after its year-long probe. The U.S. agents and their shady deals with Mexican drug lords even sparked what the paper called a ‘secret war’ inside Mexico.”

Obama meets Bloomberg as he prepares order on guns

“As his administration prepares an executive order tightening access to guns, President Barack Obama met Wednesday with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a proponent of new gun laws who has become the chief enemy of the National Rifle Association.

Obama has met with a series of gun control advocates in recent weeks as his aides complete work on a potential order expected to expand background checks on gun sales by closing the so-called ‘gun show loophole.’

A timeline on the order — which has been tangled in legal and administrative questions — is still unknown. The President met with former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was gravely wounded during a 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona, on December 4 to discuss gun control.

But even as he works to tighten access to firearms, a new survey shows dwindling support for an outright ban on assault weapons, which both Obama and Bloomberg have advocated as a means to prevent gun deaths.”

Banned and “dangerous” weapons found for sale on Amazon.co.uk

How far our British cousins have fallen. In this case, the British press inadvertently serves as a functionary of the state, helping to disarm more innocent British citizens and thereby leaving their fellow citizens as helpless victims in waiting.

At this point in history, the British people should be seriously rethinking their centralized approach to security.

“Internet retailer Amazon has reportedly been found to have had a number of illegal and dangerous weapons for sale to UK customers on its website.

As an investigation by The Guardian found, a number of firearms and concealed weapons, many of which are illegal under UK law, were freely available to the public on Amazon.

In test purchases, the paper was reportedly able to buy a Kimber Pepper Blaster II, a firearm which shoots powerful pepper spray at high speeds, a Gotcha Cap, a hat which conceals a knuckleduster-style bladed weapon under the brim, and a Zap Light, a stun gun which looks like an ordinary handheld torch, all of which are illegal under laws like the Firearms Act 1968 and the Offensive Weapons Act 1996.”

Nothing to Fear But the Fearful Themselves

“When I first learned of the recent attacks in Paris, a chill went down my spine. ‘No,’ I thought, ‘This is all happening too fast.’

I was terrified. I was not terrorized, mind you. What happened in Paris was tragic, of course. But I was not so ignorant and innumerate as to think the kind of violence it represented was a statistically significant direct threat to myself and my loved ones. I was fully cognizant that, even with the recent uptick in terror attacks, the probability of my family ever being caught up in one was vanishingly minuscule. I am more likely to be felled by a deer or a bolt of lightning than by a jihadist’s Kalashnikov.”

THERE IT IS: Democrat Party Organ The New York Times Calls for Forcible Gun Confiscation

“The press release outlet best known for its fanatical dedication to the socialist agenda — you may know it as The New York Times — has finally issued the Democrats’ long sought-after call for government confiscation of America’s guns.

It is a moral outrage and a national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency.

Of course, the Times fails to note that the recent Paris terror attacks (and many other examples of mass shootings in Europe) occurred under strict gun control regimes. They refuse to describe how disarming law-abiding citizens might prevent killings by Jihadists and the criminally insane (but I repeat myself).

Oh, and box-cutters were used to kill 3,000 Americans on 9/11. A home-made IED killed and crippled more than 100 people at the Boston Marathon. Knives and automobiles are the weapons of choice these days for slaughtering Israeli Jews.

The enemies of mankind will always find ways to kill en masse. Disarming Americans is not only unlawful and functionally impossible, it is a predicate for more terror and tyranny. But The New Democrat Times knows that, of course.”

EXCLUSIVE: Feds illegally maintain registry of firearm owners; media fails to report it

“To be very clear, the NICS system is retaining records of legal purchases, it is sharing that information with other agencies, it is retaining and sharing information containing enough detail to match the purchaser to a government created list, and now the US government is publicizing the fact that it is doing this even though it is a violation of federal law.

This comes at a time when the government is making another power-grab for firearms. If we can’t trust the government to obey its own laws, how can we trust them with more power? This revelation leaves those seeking sensible reform to a shoddy gun control system in the lurch. It has become clear the only way to avoid having your firearms purchases tracked and registered by the federal government is to exploit the ‘gun show loophole’ so many want to close.”

Have Democrats Found a Foolproof Way to Pass Gun Control?

The threat is real, and anyone with their thinking cap on can see it coming… Fortunately, a lot of people are switching on and figuring it out for themselves.

“Bucking our society’s leftward lurch has been public opinion on two issues, pre-natal infanticide and Second Amendment-protected rights. In fact, leftists were very quiet on gun control for a long time after some analysts attributed former vice president Al Gore’s 2000 election loss to advocacy of the position. But now gun control is back, and Democrats have finally perhaps found a foolproof formula for passing it: Tie it in with the fight against terrorists. Writes the Associated Press:”

Please, Dear Leader — Ban Firearms By Decree

Screen Shot 2015 11 07 at 10 27 22 AM

“Dr. Barbara LeSavoy, gun confiscation advocate and Director of Women and Gender Studies at The College at Brockport in New York, may be the authentic embodiment of contemporary totalitarian leftism. She might be LARPing – that is, Live-Action Role-Playing – in the character of a self-lobotomized ideological drone. Or perhaps she’s in the middle of an immersive, Andy Kaufman-style long-form comedy sketch.

Either she, or the character she is playing, is the post-feminist equivalent of the New Soviet Man. Programmed at a chromosomal level to think and act in collectivist terms, LeSavoy looks upon Barack Obama with the same enraptured, unalloyed devotion once directed at Stalin and Mao by their most dutiful cadres.

To her, Obama is social justice incarnate. Anointed by history and endowed with powers that are coterminous with his magnificence, he can change society by decree. Delusions of that variety were at high tide in the summer of 2008, when every syllable Obama read from a teleprompter caused adoring women to disintegrate into uncontrollable weeping.”

Ignorance, Polarization, and Xenophobia on the Street and in the Press: “White Americans are the biggest terror threat in the United States”

Remember, when you are pointing a finger, you have three pointing back…

“Almost twice as many people have died in attacks by right-wing groups in America than have died in attacks by Muslim extremists. Of the 26 attacks since 9/11 that the group defined as terror, 19 were carried out by non-Muslims. Yet there are no white Americans languishing inside the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay. And there are no drones dropping bombs on gatherings of military-age males in the country’s lawless border regions.”

Captured, Cuffed, and Jailed: A Personal Story

“But the reality that none of us really control our lives, that none of our property is really our own, that we all stand vulnerable to legal kidnapping at any moment. This is an ongoing reality for the whole population. To be arrested and jailed is to experience first-hand the terrifying realization that there is no real freedom, not under the existing system.

Surely It Won’t Happen to Me

When someone is arrested, people’s first question is: why? There’s an implicit anxiety to the query: how can I avoid this fate? Maybe if I don’t do something stupid like he did, it won’t happen to me. We want to assure ourselves that the problem of the police state is really someone else’s problem. It is felt by people who live on the edge, who do drugs, who are ‘illegal aliens,’ who don’t know how to speak politely to the police, and so on.

These are complete illusions…

And this is generally what you come to realize. Once arrested, you are a captured animal. Nothing else matters. You are no longer a consumer, a citizen, a person with a job, a normal human being. You are now just fodder, a thing they can use as they see fit.

The notion that you have any rights at all once you are arrested is a joke. What happens to you is entirely the decision of your captors…

Just doing my job.” I must have heard that phrase 15 times during my ordeal. The cops use it. The clerks use it. The guards use it. The whole system sees itself this way. It is just doing what it is supposed to do. It seems a bit like war, how soldiers do terrible things every day, morally objectionable things, but come to terms with it because they have no real choice. They do what they have to do.

And so it is for the whole criminal justice system in America today. Everyone is just doing what they have to do. No single person is responsible for judging the morality or justice of it all. It is the system, and they work within it. They can’t change it. They cooperate with it. They live by the book. It’s the book itself that is the oppressor.”

Did He Really Just Say We Need to “Bring Back Internment Camps”?

“These statements and others like them most likely reflect the frustration felt in Washington over a 15 year war on terror where there has been no victory and where we actually seem worse off than when we started. The real problem is they will argue and bicker over changing tactics but their interventionist strategy remains the same.

Retired Army Gen. Mike Flynn, who was head of the Defense Intelligence Agency during the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, told al-Jazeera this week that US drones create more terrorists than they kill. He said: ‘The more weapons we give, the more bombs we drop, that just … fuels the conflict.

Still Washington pursues the same strategy while expecting different results.”
