Greeks rightly flock to cyber currency (Bitcoin)

“With bank doors slammed shut, frantic Greeks are turning to online trading platforms to see if the digital money Bitcoin is a better bet than the euro.

The world’s largest Bitcoin exchanges tell CNNMoney they’ve seen a surge of business from Greece.

Ten times as many Greeks are registering to trade bitcoins on the German marketplace than usual, according to CEO Oliver Flaskaemper. Bitcoin trades from Greece have shot up 79% from their ten-week average on Bitstamp, the world’s third-largest exchange.

Even trading platforms in China are getting interest. LakeBTC, headquartered in Shanghai, is seeing a 40% increase in visitors using computers in Greece.

Over the weekend, the Polish exchange Bitcurex got flooded with emails from Greeks. Among their questions:”

Report: Macon Wal-Mart mob wanted to see how much damage it could do…

Surveillance video of a wee-hours ruckus at a Macon Wal-Mart on Sunday shows a teenager race inside flashing gang signs ahead of a mob of four dozen or so people who burst in and smashed merchandise. The commotion, which caused an estimated $2,000 in damage, appears to have been planned. Some in the crowd also snatched a man, apparently a shopper at the Zebulon Road store, from a motorized shopping cart and dragged him to the floor, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said Monday. The vandals, said to number between 40 and 50, sprinted down the store’s main aisle about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, “destroying merchandise displays and items,” a sheriff’s deputy’s report of the incident noted.Floors in parts of the store were “coated with broken merchandise,” the report added. “The length of the store from front to rear was lined with items which had been shattered, destroyed, turned over and thrown about.”When sheriff’s deputies got there, the crowd “began to flee into many different vehicles and leave the scene,” the report said.

The Real Reason for Flag Hysteria

Screen Shot 2015 06 29 at 8 16 16 PM

“Every couple of years the totalitarian socialist Left in America (a.k.a., the Democratic Party and all of its appendages) pretends to be indignant about the existence of the Confederate flag somewhere. The lapdog cultural Marxist media fall in line, treating the siting of the flag in the same way they would treat the siting of an Ebola victim in a large crowd. Americans are reminded once again by the New York/New England/Ivy League-educated presstitute class that they should hate Southerners and all things Southern. As Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart recently whined in faux horror, Southerners ‘waged war against the United States’ government! Waaaaaaaaah!

The anti-Confederate flag hysteria is only one small part of the Left’s general strategy, however. It is part of their overriding strategy of diverting the public’s attention away from all the grotesque failures of leftist interventionism, from the welfare state to the government takeover of education to the war on drugs and beyond. The neocons who run the Republican Party are usually complicit in all of this.

The welfare state has decimated the black family and is hard at work destroying the white family as well by eliminating the stigma against a man’s abandoning his wife and children with welfare checks (See Charles Murray, Losing Ground). What does the Confederate flag have to do with this? The welfare state has destroyed the work ethic of millions of Americans. What does the Confederate flag have to do with this? The Fed caused the biggest depression since the Great Depression with its latest boom-and-bust-cycle act. What does the Confederate flag have to do with this?”

Student suspended for disarming gunman

“‘If they wouldn’t’ve did what they had to do on that bus,’ the teen’s mother said, ‘I think there would have been a lot of fatalities.’

The mother agreed to talk with us in disguise. She can’t understand why her son, who disarmed the gunman, was suspended.

‘Those kids had to fight for their lives,’ she said. ‘All the kids that was involved in this they should have a pat on their backs because they did the right thing to save someone from burying their child.’

According to the mother, the school suspended her son because he refused to cooperate in the investigation. She says he was scared.”

Uber and Domino’s Drivers Held at Gun-Point, but One Driver Had a Secret Weapon

“An Uber driver in Queens, New York, and a pizza delivery guy in Hollywood, Florida, were both held at gunpoint last week. What happened next to each driver could not have been more different.

The NY Daily News reports that just one week after Uber issued a strict anti-firearm policy for their employees and customers, a New York Uber driver was robbed. Staring down the barrel of a rifle, he handed over all of his money, and the gunman fled the scene.

The day before, Slayde Henry, a Domino’s delivery driver in Hollywood, Florida, was also held at gunpoint. However, what the would-be robbers didn’t know is that Henry was carrying a concealed handgun.”

Detroit EMT Allegedly Refused to Help Dying Baby

A Detroit EMT has lost her job; a Detroit mother has lost something infinitely more precious. Detroit Police Commissioner Edsel Jenkins on Wednesday announced that Ann Marie Thomas was fired after allegedly refusing to respond to a call made by a mother whose 8-month-old girl had stopped breathing. The child, born premature and on an oxygen machine, was being given CPR by the mother. WDIV has the alleged timeline: It reports that Thomas was 0.9 miles from the home when she was ordered there on May 30; under normal driving conditions that would have been a two-minute drive, but Thomas allegedly took six minutes to get there and reported to dispatchers that she was parked “around the corner from the scene.” WDIV reports she allegedly wanted to wait for another crew to arrive.

Gear Review: 5.11 Women’s CCW Line

Jacki Billings writes a fine article with plenty of photos, be sure to let her know what you think.

“Women’s concealed carry gear usually falls into one of two categories—cute with no functionality or functional and hideous. In an attempt to dig women’s concealed carry out of the dark ages, 5.11 has added two bags and a jacket to their women’s line-up that are definitely worth a female’s attention: 5.11 bags

The Sarah Satchel and Lucy Tote are 5.11’s run at the concealed carry purse market. Both bags feature a hidden concealed carry compartment to stow a pistol. The main area of both bags feature organization pockets to stow phones, keys, extra mags, and multi-tools. For quick or tactical reloads, an extra mag can be stored in the front pouch of both bags.”

George Will: John Roberts helps overthrow the Constitution

We are, says William R. Maurer of the Institute for Justice, becoming “a country in which all the branches of government work in tandem to achieve policy outcomes, instead of checking one another to protect individual rights. Besides violating the separation of powers, this approach raises serious issues about whether litigants before the courts are receiving the process that is due to them under the Constitution.”The Roberts Doctrine facilitates what has been for a century progressivism’s central objective, the overthrow of the Constitution’s architecture. The separation of powers impedes progressivism by preventing government from wielding uninhibited power. Such power would result if its branches behaved as partners in harness rather than as wary, balancing rivals maintaining constitutional equipoise.Roberts says “we must respect the role of the Legislature” but “[A] fair reading of legislation demands a fair understanding of the legislative plan.” However, he goes beyond “understanding” the plan; he adopts a legislator’s role in order to rescue the legislature’s plan from the consequences of the legislature’s dubious decisions. By blurring, to the point of erasure, constitutional boundaries, he damages all institutions, not least his court.

Lack of training, standards mean big problems for small police departments

Questions about leadership, training and basic competence track largely unmet public safety needs that threaten a broad swath of policing operations in small communities across the country. Half of the nearly 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the U.S. have fewer than 10 officers patrolling counties and towns where standards are uneven or non-existent.

FCC Liberal Flash Mob Looting Taxpayers.

Partisan warfare has broken out at the once-sleepy Federal Communications Commission, where disputes over Internet subsidies for the poor, robocalls and net neutrality regulations have taken on an increasingly bitter tone.

At an open meeting on Thursday, Republican FCC commissioner Michael O’Rielly accused the body’s Democratic majority of trying to force through an expansion of broadband subsidies for low-income Americans before President Obama leaves office.

“It is clear that the majority wants to spend as much as they possibly can without any hint of restraint before a possible change in Administration,” he said.

Though the agency is adversarial by nature — by law, only three out of the five commissioners can come from the same political party — a recent series of controversial items have laid bare the fault lines between some of the commissioners.

O’Rielly also accused unnamed commission leaders of lying to him during a later discussion on a measure to crack down on robocalls and spam texts.

Did The New Yorker’s Adam Gopnik Just Make The Most Ignorant Gun Control Argument – Ever?

Gun control is not a panacea, any more than penicillin was. Some violence will always go on. What gun control is good at is controlling guns. Gun control will eliminate gun massacres in America as surely as antibiotics eliminate bacterial infections. As I wrote last week, those who oppose it have made a moral choice: that they would rather have gun massacres of children continue rather than surrender whatever idea of freedom or pleasure they find wrapped up in owning guns or seeing guns owned—just as the faith healers would rather watch the children die than accept the reality of scientific medicine. This is a moral choice; many faith healers make it to this day, and not just in thought experiments.

Van Jones: “If teens in tricorner hats and “don’t tread on me” shirts were stopped, arrested, beaten, or murdered by law enforcement, it would be widely agreed that it represented government tyranny.”

If police stopped and frisked entire Tea Party rallies to catch one militia member, there would be unending screams of oppression. If teens in tricorner hats and “don’t tread on me” shirts were stopped, arrested, beaten, or murdered by law enforcement, it would be widely agreed that it represented government tyranny.

Detroit woman wounded in shootout with home invaders | News – Home

Good thing this woman had access to a firearm. I know that there are a lot of people out there that think she shouldn’t, but I’m not one of them.

“A Detroit woman defended herself with gunfire early Tuesday morning when a group of men broke into her home.

The woman, who goes by the nickname Ms. Dee, said she was jolted awake around 2 a.m. when one of the men broke through her bedroom window of her home on Whitehill and pointed a gun in her face. Three or four more men followed behind.

‘I was able to get to my gun. They didn’t know I had it. By that time, it was just gunfire,’

She was hit in the foot and is expected to be OK. She said she believes at least one of the men was also shot.”
